Descriptions

Short · 58 words

LineManager is a public transport building and operations simulation. On real maps of Naumburg, Dortmund and Riga you build bus and tram networks, lay your own track, plan timetables and vehicle duties and run your transport company day to day – with a clear normal view or all the way down to the interlocking in the technical view.

Medium · 131 words

LineManager is a building and operations simulation for urban public transport. Based on OpenStreetMap data, you build bus and tram networks in Naumburg, Dortmund and Riga: stops, lines, your own track with points and turning facilities, depots and timetables.

A good network only proves itself in operation. Vehicles have to make it through the whole day, traffic lights and road traffic slow down the service, accidents force detours, and the city council decides on subsidies and fares. If you want to go deeper, you can signal your network with signals, routes and a track-diagram interlocking – or leave it to the automation.

LineManager is being developed for Windows PC and will be released on Steam. The game is in development as a technical alpha; no release date has been announced yet.

LineManager is a building and operations simulation for urban public transport. Players build bus and tram networks on real maps and run a transport company through day-to-day operations. The game uses OpenStreetMap data for its regions Naumburg (Saale), Dortmund and Riga Central.

At its heart is freely built infrastructure: single and double track, street-running or on reserved track, points, turnbacks and turning loops, stops from templates and depots with a workshop track. Lines, timetables and vehicle duties are built on this network – and have to hold up in everyday operation. Road traffic, traffic lights and junctions share the space with buses and trams, accidents lead to detours and short turns, staff can run short, and an elected city council decides on subsidies, fares and trade tax.

LineManager offers two levels of depth. The normal view keeps network and operations clear. The technical view shows signals, blocks, routes, balises and a track-diagram interlocking for everyone who wants to signal their network like a real operator. The control centre, driving school and single-track protection can run automatically, assisted or manually.

Naumburg is the compact starter region with the real tram line 4 and historic tramcars; a Naumburg demo has been submitted to Steam. Dortmund covers the entire city and is the biggest challenge. As the first city outside Europe, Portland (Oregon) is being built as a pilot map with streetcar and American traffic lights.

LineManager is developed in Dortmund for Windows PC and will be released on Steam. The game is a technical alpha; progress is documented in a public development diary. Release date and price have not been announced yet.
